Artist Statement
I am
inspired by the hidden beauty that surrounds us but is not always apparent. In
the studio I construct sets which play with the light and coax the camera to
unveil my subjects caught in a moment where time seems to stand still to reveal
their character. In my paintings I give my subjects center stage. I value strong composition and the relationship between color,
form and content. My work never ceases to excite my imagination.
· The Photographs
All
effects are achieved on the set for the camera lens. I use a medium-format
camera and positive sheet film. The positive image is converted to a digital file for the purpose of reproduction. The photograph is custom printed at a professional's lab using premium, archival, digital photo paper. The finished print is vibrant and rich.
Prints
are sold in limited editions of 250 and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
All pieces are hand-signed and numbered by me. Please refer to the [Purchase] page for
sizes, prices and additional information.
· The Paintings
Original paintings were done in oils and/or acrylic paint on canvas.
In the Still Life paintings I employ realism to the point of fantasy and use
energetic colors. In the Figure paintings people are stopped in a moment of reflection revealing something about feelings and attitudes. The inspiration for these studies come from people I photographed in many countries.
Painting reproductions are available in premium quality Giclee prints on canvas or watercolor paper. Reproductions replicate the original works with attention
paid to color, tone and brush strokes.
· Charcoal & Pastels
The human form is as beautiful as it is complicated. The mechanics of drawing anatomy is both challenging and interesting. These figures were drawn as continuously on one sheet of paper using the same model for all poses. The poses collectively form groups which tell a little about themselves revealing a glimpse into their lives.
